How can an instructor mark a course "Complete"? What report has courses completions by course and/or by user?

What event marks a course complete once the user finished the course?

Just looking for various options on this topic.

Thank you

any L.O. on a course can be an "end object marker". Use the wrench (forma 2) or cog (forma 3) icon to set the LO's properties and set it as an end object marker. Obviously you normally do it on the last item.
Completing the end object triggers the completion of the course.

An instructor can also set a user as "finished" on the whole course (from the user stats, or from the course subscriptions section in the administration area).
That won't change the user tracking on the LO's but will set the user as "completed".

Alternatively, you can also manually mark the completion on the end object from the users - object grid. That will also trigger the course completion.

Also on the LO's properties you can set an object with a "final bookmark", that way the score will also be reflected in reports.

Report by user is the report you normally use to see the information of who has completed the course. Or at least that is the most practical way.

You can also use the front end stats if you want more detail.

I would recommend you take a look at our guides and tutorials, anyway, to understand more about these topics

With regards to course completion, in my previous LMS (we upgraded to Forma LMS due to its rich features), we didnt have to set any course as an end object marker. Once a user completes a L.O within the course the LMS records it just like Forma does, however, once all L.O is completed, the course is marked as completed site wide.

In Forma LMS, once a user completes all L.O in a course, the course still remains in progress, which i feel should not be so. Its ideal the LMS on its own marks the course as complete as soon as the user completes all L.O within the course.

This setting of end object marker does not work at times, even when set, the course still remains in progress. It was actually a headache when i took over from our previous LMS Admin, i could not fanthom why courses was not being completed even when users have completed all L.O withing the course and their progress is 100%.

Is there any any way to bypass setting the end object markers?

To have the completion when 100% LOs are completed/passed you need development. Anyway, I suggest to consider some critical issues, such as what if a new LO is added to the list, or one or more are not mandatory, and so on.
Even if this is not your case, an implementation should not work that way: it should consider all cases and be as generic as possible.
In such a scenario, I think the way Forma works is correct, while the other LMS you used before behaves wrong.

Last but not least, your sentence "This setting of end object marker does not work at times, even when set, the course still remains in progress." deserves ind-depth analysis to understand if your configuration/behaviour is missing some pieces or you found a bug.

I agree with alfa24 on all his remarks.
Additionally, we never heard about the end-object marker not working, ever. So please share the steps to reproduce it.
You might be referring, for example, to a marker being set but the user fails to complete the LO.
That can only happen if the LO is a questionnaire and the user is not a student, but that is by design.
