Mail config

Post by Graeme59 »

Hi,
Is there any documentation on the new mail configuration in Forma 4.0's functionality and setup?
Cheers

Hi, the settings are the same you would set up on your email client, the ones your provider would give you.

The ones with 'name' are not mandatory and are the same fields as in version 3.

The other ones should be self explanatory, like for example 'title'.

We are releasing a new version with some more information, but the above pretty much summarizes what you need to know.

Hi,
Thank you for the replies; however, I still have some questions.
It may be because the english translation makes it less obvious or it could be because I am old and senile. :D

See attached

A. I see we can have multiple mail configurations. Is this to accommodate each admin being able to send emails from
their own system bonded to their branch of the organization chart?

B. Self-evident

C. smtp.domain.com

D. Port Self-evident

E. SMTP User?

F. Self-evident

G. Yes/No?

H. SSL on/off?

I. Sender mail notifications?

J. Sender name notifications?

K. Sender mail System?

L. Sender name system?

M. Sender cc emails?

N. Sender ccn Emails? (I guess bcc of the above)

O. Mail Help desk. If each admin has a mail config does this mean the help request gets sent to them not us.

P. Name Help Desk (Admin name)?

Q. Subject Help Desk Self-Evident

R. Reply to sender?

S. Reply to sender email?

Sorry this is a bit of a essay.
Cheers
Graeme

A. I see we can have multiple mail configurations. Is this to accommodate each admin being able to send emails from

Yes

B. Self-evident

C. smtp.domain.com

D. Port Self-evident

E. SMTP User? >>> Well, it's self evident. It's the same you would use in Outlook or Gmail, only you and your provider would know.

F. Self-evident

G. Yes/No? >> No (in the old version you could only set it to yes or no from php, now it's in the interface). Of course it's no, set it to yes only if you want to debug.

H. SSL on/off? >> normally only you and your provider would know. In general it would be yes or auto

I. Sender mail notifications? >>> The email address from which the notifications are sent, same as in the old version

J. Sender name notifications? >>> The name of that email address, same as before

K. Sender mail System? >>> email address of the system notification

L. Sender name system? >>> the name of the above email address, same as before

M. Sender cc emails? >> same as before, insert an address you want all emails from the LMS to be sent to

N. Sender ccn Emails? (I guess bcc of the above) >> same as above, but bcc

O. Mail Help desk. If each admin has a mail config does this mean the help request gets sent to them not us. >> yes

P. Name Help Desk (Admin name)? >>> the name of the email address you will receive helpdesk emails from

Q. Subject Help Desk Self-Evident >> as before, it will put a default subject [XXXXXXXX] in the emails you will receive from the helpdesk

R. Reply to sender? >> sender name of the below

S. Reply to sender email? >>> from version 3, when you receive emails from the LMS they are sent from the email address that sends notifications. BUT when you hit "reply" you might reply to a different address. You can set it here. It's useful if you want notifications to be sent from a noreply@ address

Sorry this is a bit of a essay.
Cheers

Hi.
I have tried hundreds of combinations of ports and emails ect, to get this to work on a test site with no success.
Do you think a temporary domain name will prevent this from working correctly?
ie htupgradetest11-com.stackstaging.com

sorry Graeme, but I cannot understand what you mean here by temporary domain name. The email account should of course be existing and working, and the information you use on the LMS should be the same that would be needed to set up a working Outlook account. And it would be the same as with Forma 3: the only difference is that now you fill it in in the User Interface.

Hi Max,
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
I used the term temporary domain name for a link (url) to a hosting package that has not yet had a domain name pointed to it ie https://htupgradetest11-com.stackstaging.com/

Hi,
In Forma 4.04 where in the db are the Mail Setup 'non-compulsory fields' stored?
After completing all the fields in the Mail set-up and saving, if I go back in to edit the file, the non-compulsory fields, are all empty.

Sender name notifications
Sender name system
sender cc emails
sender ccn emails
Mail Help Desk
Name Help Desk
Subject Help Desk
Reply to sender name
Reply to sender mail

I can see the Compulsory fields stored in the `core_mail_configs_fields` and they have saved.
Currently, the Help desk is sending emails from the main account, not the helpdesk support account, Also getting cc into emails is not happening.
Am I missing something?
Cheers

Hi Graeme, on our 4.0.5 installations all the fields are displayed correctly, could you try upgrading and check if this solves the issue?
